"A 12-year-old boy died after riding a roller coaster at Disney-MGM Studios on Thursday."
Nothing funny about that, right? Quite sad, actually...unless you keep reading:
"Right now, our deepest sympathies are with the family and we are doing everything we can to assist them," said Disney spokesman Jacob DiPietre. "Right now, there is a Disney cast member who is with them and providing any assistance that we can provide."
Um...exactly which Disney cast member was sent to help and comfort the family? Tinkerbell? Goofy? Perhaps Captain Jack Sparrow...? [he can comfort me anytime]
*Hat tip to Eric...

Hi, I was just flipping through when I read your Jack Sparrow comment, and it made me laugh.
I know what you mean, he can comfort me anytime! Even better if he brings along Will the blacksmith...
Great blog, I'll be stopping by again!
In Disney-speak, anyone who works in the park is considered to be a "cast member." It could have been anyone with the family, from a manager to one of those kids who work the food carts.
Either way, being Disney, I'm sure that at some point they tried to slip the family a waiver of liability to sign.
I happen to know from a former Disney employee that even retail store employees are called "cast members." Yes, those people in the mall, far far away from Anaheim, can be part of the Disney magic -- pass the Kool-aid. And the cash register is called the "box office." I'm not kidding. It's totally weird. Even the employee, who was a HUGE Disney fan (um, wedding at Disneyland?!), knew that it was weird.
